Whistler, BC – Well, Crankworx has come and gone and what a crazy show it was. But before we get to the action lets review the month of July. It started with hot, dry weather which was great as I spent 4 days teaching skiing up on the glaciers. The best part was that with our great season this year, we were able to ski back to the top of Solar Coaster.Summer Glacier skiing, Whistler BC – July 7, 2006
The snow was very Spring-like, but reasonably nice to ski. I enjoyed my time up there although my feet weren’t quite sure why they were being crammed into those boots. The biking is going crazy this year and as a result we are really busy. We did manage to find some time and sneak in a run from the Peak. Through the snow and down Highway 86 re-joining the bike-park at No Joke.

There is still a bit of snow up there and the biking is great. Well, there’s no better way to end the month than with the big party that is Crankworx. This year didn’t disappoint with plenty of action going on. Lopes ended Gracia’s reign in the Air downhill, the Biker X final was intense with Jared Graves edging out Gracia for the win. Slopestyle was insane with a huge triple step-up over the big screen (a.k.a. the Gap-a-tron) as the final hit. It was a huge drop back to earth and there were no-handers, tail-whips and 360’s thrown off it, much to the delight of the crowd.
Other big tricks were a back-flip off the road gap, back-flip tail-whip, front flip and many others. For more photos, check out my Crankworx photo album. When the dust settled Paul Basagoita lost his crown (he did try the 720 twice in the final and came close) to Cameron Zink. For full results and more, check out the offical Crankworx site. August is looking to be busy. We are reaching record numbers in the bike-park as more people are realizing the thrills of screaming down the mountain on two wheels. The biking is great right now and I hope to see you on the trails.
