Whistler, BC- Welcome to the first report for 2006 and what a year it has been so far. After the rains of Christmas we have had steady snow with good snowfalls. We had a good 40 cm fall on the New Year’s weekend and the snow was deep and light. Fantastic skiing. Most of the resort is open and conditions and amazing. Lower mountain is still a bit slushy, but the goods are on the upper slopes. Peak was the go today (4th) as laps of Whistler Bowl and Shale slope were, in the words of the Wolf, sexual. Boot high powder over soft bumps, lovely. Mondays was the run of the day with thigh-deep fluffy snow. Harmony was also good, with great conditions and the Christmas crowds have gone home meaning no lift lines.

Haven’t been on Blackcomb for awhile, but am skiing there tomorrow so will include a report next update. I hear the skiing is quite good and that 7th Heaven is pretty rock free at the moment. Forecast is calling for a small warming trend on Friday, but back to colder and more snow for the weekend. Can’t wait. Today was by far the best day of this young season. Let’s hope it keeps getting better and better.
